Microsoft Copilot
Copilot is the native option for Excel users, and being inside the app is the whole point. It writes formulas, spots trends, and generates summaries without you leaving the sheet or copying anything. For anyone whose work already lives in Excel and Microsoft 365, that integration is a real, daily convenience the standalone assistants cannot match.
It requires a Microsoft 365 subscription with Copilot, so it is the least free option here, and its usefulness is tied to the Microsoft world. Inside that world, it is the smoothest experience.

The pattern is simple. If you live in Google, Gemini fits. If you want AI as a first class citizen of the spreadsheet itself, a tool like Rows is worth a look. For everyone else, ChatGPT alongside your existing sheet covers most needs for free.

The catch
